A native of Tel Aviv, Yael Acher “KAT” Modiano received her BA in Classical Flute Performing Arts from the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem, where she studied also Jazz and Electronic Music Composition. She lived, performed, and taught in Copenhagen for over a decade. In 2005 Ms. Acher-Modiano arrived in New York City as a Fulbright scholar to study Electro-acoustic Composition at New York University and at Hunter College. Ms. Acher-Modiano is currently completing an MA in Music for Social Change, at Empire State College, in NYC.

Ms. Acher-Modiano plays on a golden head-joint made by Johan Brögger, the legendary Danish Luthier flutemaker, goldsmith, inventor, who have built flutes for prominent flutists such as, James Galway, flutist from to New York Philharmonic, and others.

As a multiple genre performer / composer and interpreter, Ms. Acher-Modiano works within; Contemporary, Classical, Progressive Jazz, Tango, Free Improvisation and Electronic-Acoustic live soundtracks for legendary silent films and Music for Choreography. She also gives therapeutic performances at Hospice Residencies, Shelters for Domestic Violence and Juvenile Detention Centers. Additionally, she gives solo flute Contemporary meets Baroque charity concerts to benefit social causes, at large churches on New York City.

As an educator, Ms. Acher-Modiano currently holds flute individual teachings for all ages and levels, in Classical and Rhythmic music, as well as on skype, for students around the globe. She holds also Music Appreciation classes in the boroughs of NYC.

Acher-Modiano’s Credits for Performances and Commissions span between Europe, Israel, USA, Canada, and Japan, as followed:

* Acher-Modiano has performed Solo Classical and Contemporary Electro-acoustic performances at venues such as: Roulette, Church of Transfiguration, Church of Heavenly Rest, Rutgers Presbyterian Church, Holy Trinity Church, Rubin Museum in NYC and Brooklyn; Sound Symposium festival, St John in Canada; Lund Dom Church, in Sweden; Round Tower in Copenhagen, Denmark; Braila New music Festival in Romania; Lille in France and more.

* Ache-Modiano leads the Jazz group: ”KAT” & Modiano Quartet with her original electro-instrumental, progressive, groove- jazz since the early 90’s in DK and continuing in NYC and Europe, in collaboration with MCs, DJs and video artists. The group have performed throughout Europe and New York, at venues such as: Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, BAMcafé, Iridium, Bargemusic, NJPAC (New Jersey Performing Art Center), Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Jazzhouse, Malmo Jazz Festival, and many more.

* Ache-Modiano’s performances and commissions for Music for Choreography was performed at venues such as: Susan Dellal Centre for Modern Dance, in Tel-Aviv, the Fringe Festival, in Edinburgh, Lille2004, in France, Copenhagen Summer Dance Festival, Tribeca PAC in NYC, Fire Island Dancers for Aids, NY and Las Vegas University and more. Her collaborations as a composer/performer with choreographer/dancers include such artist as: Kim Itoh (Japan), Tim Rushton (UK, DK), Mink Colbert Dance (Europe and USA) and Ellis Wood (NYC), Prismatic Production and Ollom Dance (NYC), Corvino Ballet (NYC).

* Ache-Modiano specializes also in creating Live/ Composed soundtrack for Silent Film. Her performances credits include venues such as: Lincoln Center Library for Performing Arts and The High Line, and Jewish Heritage Museum in NYC; Queersicht, in Bern, Switzerland; Outfilm, in Hartford, CT; Danish film Institute, Cinematek in Copenhagen; TLVfest, international LGBT Film Festival; Spectacle Theater, in Brooklyn, and more.

* Ache-Modiano’s music was reviewed and featured on: New Music Connoisseur, Cadence Magazine, All About Jazz in NYC, Jazz Magazine in France, Third Ear, in Israel, Jazz Special in Denmark and more. And it was broadcasts on radio stations in: Denmark, Spain, France, Rumania Canada, Mexico and the USA.

* Ache-Modiano received numerous awards and grants in Denmark and the USA, among them are: Fulbright Commission Scholarship, Foundation for Contemporary Art, Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, American Scandinavian Society, Lower Manhattan culture Council, Copenhagen Culture Foundation, Danish Art Council, Danish Artists Union, Danish Jazz Foundation, Danish Musicians Union, and more.
